Project Overview
Puzzle Junction, in partnership with Conwy County Borough Council, is delivering an imaginative and immersive schools project titled:
Cryptic Creatures of the Creuddyn.
The project aims to educate and inspire pupils across Conwy about the rare invertebrates of the limestone habitat on the Great Orme, through a dynamic in-school experience blending performance, interactive props, and environmental storytelling.
We are now seeking a bilingual Artist/Illustrator to both design a central character for the project and co-deliver creative classroom workshops that explore its environmental themes through visual storytelling and hands-on activities.
Role Overview
This is a dual role combining creative illustration with arts-based facilitation. The successful applicant will:
Design and illustrate the project’s central character, Elin y Cerrig – Guardian of the Limestone
Create visual resources and artwork to support the delivery and legacy of the project
Co-deliver creative, bilingual classroom sessions, designed by the project lead, offering input and artistic support during delivery
Key Responsibilities
Creative Illustration & Design
Develop a striking and child-friendly visual design for Elin y Cerrig, representing the limestone habitat and its rare invertebrates
Produce illustrations or visual assets to be used in print and digital formats (e.g. character poster, story-based visuals, resource elements)
Work collaboratively with the project lead to ensure designs align with the educational themes and creative tone of the project
Workshop Facilitation (with Creative Input)
Deliver bilingual classroom sessions across Conwy schools alongside the project lead
Offer creative input into the development of sessions (e.g. suggesting materials, visual ideas, or delivery techniques)
Support and guide pupils through hands-on art activities, fostering participation, creativity, and connection to the project themes
Help ensure a safe, inspiring, and inclusive environment for all pupils
Person Specification
Essential:
Fluent in Welsh and English (spoken and written)
Strong illustration or visual art skills with a playful, imaginative style
Experience working with children in a workshop or educational setting
Comfortable facilitating in classrooms and supporting a lead facilitator
Enhanced DBS Check (current)
Reliable, well-organised, and able to work flexibly across multiple school settings
Desirable:
Interest in the natural world, biodiversity, or environmental education
Experience creating visuals for storytelling or education
Familiarity with North Wales habitats, culture, or schools
Ability to work digitally (e.g. using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop) if required
